RICHMOND, Va. — Some 6.9 million Americans are registered to vote in two or more states, according to a report obtained by Watchdog.org.
“Our nation’s voter rolls are a mess,” says Catherine Engelbrecht, president of the election-watch group True The Vote.
“Sensible approaches to roll maintenance are fought tooth and nail by radical special interests who can use the duplicity in the system to their advantage,” she said.
The latest interstate voter cross check tallied 6,951,484 overlapping voter registrations, and they’re just the tip of the iceberg.
The cross-check program involves only 28 states and does not include the three largest: California, Texas and Florida.
“Duplicate registration is an open invitation to voting fraud,” said Clara Belle Wheeler, a member of the Election Board in Albemarle County, Va. “This ability to vote more than once dilutes the legal votes and changes the results of elections.”
The interstate cross-check program matches first and last names and dates of birth to identify multiple registrations.But the data are not routinely used to purge duplicates.
“Increasingly lax standards in our election process produce increasingly unreliable results,” Engelbrecht asserted.

Η πρώτη φορά στην Ιστορία της Μαθηματικής Γεωγραφίας, κατά την οποία έγινε πραγματική μέτρηση για τον υπολογισμό της περιμέτρου της Γης, ήταν από τον Ερατοσθένη τον Κυρηναίο, ο οποίος υπολόγισε με εκπληκτική ακρίβεια την περίμετρο της Γης από... ένα πηγάδι στο Ασσουάν. Για τη μέτρηση αυτή ο Ερατοσθένης είχε γράψει ιδιαίτερη πραγματεία, όπως πληροφορούμαστε από την «Διόπτρα» του Ήρωνος του Αλεξανδρέως, ο οποίος αναφερόμενος στο μέγεθος της περιμέτρου της Γης σημειώνει: «Ερατοσθένης εν τω επιγραφομένω περί αναμετρήσεως της Γης».      Πληροφορίες προγενέστερων του Ερατοσθένη αστρονόμων έλεγαν, ότι περί την Συήνη (σημερινό Ασσουάν) την 21ην Ιουνίου οι ακτίνες του Ήλιου έπεφταν κάθετα προς το οριζόντιο επίπεδο. Call me naïve, but when Iraq fell to the American-led and British-followed invasion of 2003, I thought the simplest solution to the problem posed by this country to the region and itself would also be the one most acceptable to its three main ethnic groups, the Sunnis, Shiites, and Kurds, namely a messy but cathartic divorce that would allow each of the three groups to achieve separate nationhood and with it internal integrity and security.

Ethnic maps of Iraq revealed that the South and East of the country was and is overwhelmingly Shiite in population, while Sunnis were prevalent in the Centre and West, with the Kurds already semi-independent in the North. Given the centuries of bad blood between these three groups, exacerbated over the last few decades by Saddam's Baathist regime, it seemed a Sisyphean labor to try and force these three distinct groups to live harmoniously together.

A new pill used a in a leukemia study may be the answer to treating several types of cancer, according to The Telegraph.
The drug uses “delta inhibitors” to boost the immune system. The drug was so effective during trials on mice, doctors at the University College of London and the Babraham Institiute in Cambridge switched the control group from placebos to the drug on ethical grounds. Plus, the drug has the added benefit of “teaching” the body to stave off cancer, creating a natural immunity of sorts, unlike chemotherapy, which weakens the immune system.
“This helps your own immune system fight off the cancer better,” study co-leader Professor Bart Vanhaesebroeck told The Telegraph. “The good guys win. And it seems to work on all cancers.”

What is happening in Greece is nothing short of a tragedy and the responsibility must lie with the EU and the Greek politicians who bent the rules to force the country into a single currency which it was never going to fit.
In 2009 I predicted what would happen to the Greek economy but I am not glad that it has as what it has led to is terrible suffering by the Greek people. I have been inundated with messages from people all over the world, including Germans appalled at what is happening in their name.
But the largest number of messages have come from people in Greece sharing their stories with me, and I want to share them with you so you can read first hand what life has become for so many people in that country because of the greed of the political classes. Greece needs to leave the single currency.
If it were not in the eurozone, in a shroud of EU spin, we would all be told that they are defaulting on many of their debts. That is what this so called 'haircut' is. And it needs to happen and Greece needs to bring back the Drachma so once again it can be a country with a future as well as the country with the famous history and the birthplace of democracy.

An eight-year-old Yemeni girl has died of internal bleeding on her wedding night after marrying a man five times her age, a social activist and two local residents said, in a case that has caused an outcry in the media and revived debate about child brides.
Arwa Othman, head of Yemen's House of Folklore and a leading rights campaigner, said the girl, identified only as Rawan, was married to a 40-year-old late last week in the town of Meedi in Hajjah province, north-western Yemen.
"On the wedding night and after intercourse, she suffered from bleeding and uterine rupture which caused her death," Othman said. "They took her to a clinic but the medics couldn't save her life."
Othman said authorities had not taken any action against the girl's family or her husband.
A security official in the provincial town of Haradh denied any such incident had taken place. He did not want to be identified because he was not authorised to speak to the press.
But two Meedi residents contacted by Reuters confirmed the incident and said tribal chiefs had tried to cover up the incident when the news broke, warning a local journalist against covering the story.
Many poor families in Yemen marry off young daughters to save on the costs of bringing up a child and earn extra money from the dowry given to the girl.
