DC Schools: $29,349 Per Pupil, 83 Percent Not Proficient in Reading
The public schools in Washington, D.C., spent $29,349 per pupil in the
2010-2011 school year, according to the latest data from National Center
for Education Statistics, but in 2013 fully 83 percent of the eighth
graders in these schools were not "proficient" in reading and 81 percent
were not "proficient" in math.
These are the government schools in our nation's capital city -- where for decades politicians of both parties have obstreperously pushed for more federal involvement in education and more federal spending on education.
Government has manifestly failed the families who must send their children to these schools, and the children who must attend them.
Under the auspices of the National Center for Education Statistics, the federal government periodically tests elementary and high school students in various subjects, including reading and math. These National Assessment of Educational Progress tests are scored on a scale of 500, and student achievement levels are rated as "basic," "proficient" and "advanced."
In 2013, students nationwide took NAEP reading and math tests. When the NCES listed the scores of public-school eighth graders in the 50 states and the District of Columbia, D.C. came in last in both subjects.

White is not right: Campus admins ask for help weeding out white people
Western Washington University sent a questionnaire to students
asking them for advice on how the administration could succeed at making
sure that in future years, “we are not as white as we are today.”
The question notes that WWU’s racial make up does not perfectly reflect the nation at large, and asks students to consider strategies that other universities have used to focus on skin color as the paramount indicator of a student-applicant’s worth.
The president of WWU has stated that his explicit goal is to reduce the white population on campus, according to Campus Reform.
“I’ve said before and I’ll say it again, that we as a faculty and staff and student body, as an administration, if we 10 years from now are as white as we are today, we will have failed as a university,” said Bruce Shepard, president of WWU, in a 2012 address.

Want the tea party to win in 2014? Then end the student loan scam
If the tea party wants to win seats in Congress in 2014, it needs to
go for the jugular — and that means taking on the student loan crisis.
Americans are a combined $1.3 trillion dollars in student loan debt, thanks in part to incessant messaging that everyone needs to get a degree regardless of interest, ability, or earning potential. This massive burden on the economy will implode at some point and drag the faint gains of the housing market down with it. Lenders won’t approve a mortgage for a young person hemorrhaging $500 a month for student loan payments. That which can’t continue forever, won’t.
The untapped potential of this constituency on this issue could re-orient the political landscape. When’s the last time you heard a Republican pointing out that non-dischargeable student loan debt entrenches income inequality? With 40 percent of households run by someone under 35 struggling to bear the student debt burden, this should be a no-brainer for the tea party wing of the GOP, a great tactic to outflank Democrats and establishment Republicans alike.
But no one has jumped on this proposal yet. The Associated Press listed a few possible reforms this week that would lessen the student loan burden. All but one come from Democrats. What the hell, Republicans? Why are you letting your opponents lead the charge on a fiscally conservative issue?
Massachusetts Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren is slamming the federal government for renewing its lucrative contract with by Sallie Mae, a company that violates consumer protection laws and rakes in millions in profit. Communist Van Jones is over at CNN, shaking his pinko fist at the system that cruelly locks borrowers into seven percent interest rates. President Barack Obama implemented the Income-Based Repayment Plan back in 2009, which lets borrowers negotiate payments that won’t gobble up half their

If These Students Are The Future Of America, We've Got Serious Issues
At America’s “least good” schools around the nation, the students
fall woefully short of even basic competencies in math, reading and
writing. The New York Post publicly identified one of these “fail factories,” Murry Bergstraum High School in Manhattan.
Once the high school’s PR guy (yes, you read that right) got wind of the Post’s expose, the incomprehensible letters came a-flyin’. From the NY Post:

These kids should learn write from wrong.
Earlier this month, The Post exposed a scheme at Manhattan’s Murry Bergtraum HS for Business Careers in which failing students could get full credit without attending class, but instead watch video lessons and take tests online. One social-studies teacher had a roster of 475 students in all grades and subjects.
Red-faced administrators encouraged a student letter-writing campaign to attack The Post and defend its “blended learning” program. Eighteen kids e-mailed to argue that their alma mater got a bad rap.
Almost every letter was filled with spelling, grammar and punctuation errors.
