Want the tea party to win in 2014? Then end the student loan scam

If the tea party wants to win seats in Congress in 2014, it needs to go for the jugular — and that means taking on the student loan crisis.
Americans are a combined $1.3 trillion dollars in student loan debt, thanks in part to incessant messaging that everyone needs to get a degree regardless of interest, ability, or earning potential. This massive burden on the economy will implode at some point and drag the faint gains of the housing market down with it. Lenders won’t approve a mortgage for a young person hemorrhaging $500 a month for student loan payments. That which can’t continue forever, won’t.
The untapped potential of this constituency on this issue could re-orient the political landscape. When’s the last time you heard a Republican pointing out that non-dischargeable student loan debt entrenches income inequality? With 40 percent of households run by someone under 35 struggling to bear the student debt burden, this should be a no-brainer for the tea party wing of the GOP, a great tactic to outflank Democrats and establishment Republicans alike.
But no one has jumped on this proposal yet. The Associated Press listed a few possible reforms this week that would lessen the student loan burden. All but one come from Democrats. What the hell, Republicans? Why are you letting your opponents lead the charge on a fiscally conservative issue?

A Nation's Attempt to Survive Isn't Racism

It may surprise some Americans to learn that almost one-quarter of the people living in Switzerland are foreigners. Even so, just over 50 percent voted last month to cap immigration, which, unchecked, could leave indigenous Swiss a minority in 50 years. Newsweek's headline over the story was typical: "Switzerland's Sudden Fear of Immigrants."
Fear. Immigrants. The German publication Spiegel Online wrote also about "scaremongering." The enlightened reader's thought-bubble is now supposed to register the word "racism." But was it really "fear of immigrants" -- read: "racism" -- that drove sufficient numbers of Swiss to the polls to check their own demographic extinction as a recognizable culture and nation-state? Or was it a nearly anachronistic instinct to survive as a recognizable culture and nation-state?
I see it as the instinct to survive -- and applaud the Swiss for deciding to limit the influx of Europeans, Slavs, Muslims, Africans and others, whose demographic waves are otherwise sure to transform indigenous Swiss culture into a global multiculture. I also envy them for mustering this basic vital sign, this narrow-edged popular will to control their own borders. It is something that has all but flat-lined in America, where capping immigration -- let alone halting it to attempt some measure of assimilation and economic resuscitation -- is not even a part of the political debate.
Why isn't it? In the U.S., the foreign-born population is now estimated to be around 13 percent, and it's rising every year. This poses truly existential problems, particularly since the concept of "melting" into American culture was junked long ago -- along with "American" culture. Meanwhile, that overall percentage, a little more than one in 10, masks the greater density and impact of foreign-born populations in the states and cities where immigrants and illegal aliens congregate.

NYT reporter: Obama administration ‘the greatest enemy of press freedom’ in a generation

  

New York Times reporter James Risen called the Obama administration “the greatest enemy of press freedom that we have encountered in at least a generation” on Friday, explaining that the White House seeks to control the flow of information and those who refuse to play along “will be punished.”
Poynter reports that Risen made the remarks while speaking at Sources and Secrets conference — a meeting of journalism , communication and government professionals held in New York City. The foreign policy reporter, who is currently fighting a fierce court battle with the federal government over his protection of a confidential source, warned that press freedom is under serious attack in today’s America.
In a speech kicking off the conference, Risen claimed that the Obama administration wants to “narrow the field of national security reporting” and “create a path for accepted reporting.” Those who stray from that path, he cautioned, “will be punished.”
The result is a “de facto Official Secrets Act,” Risen explained, making the current White House “the greatest enemy of press freedom that we have encountered in at least a generation.” And the media

New approach makes cancer cells explode

Researchers at Karolinska Institutet have discovered that a substance called Vacquinol-1 makes cells from glioblastoma, the most aggressive type of brain tumour, literally explode. When mice were given the substance, which can be given in tablet form, tumour growth was reversed and survival was prolonged. The findings are published in the journal Cell.

Students in Sweden have risen up against a teacher who was supportive of the anti-immigration Swedish Democrat Party and had him fired from the school.
The school’s authorities themselves were, of course, very quick to hear the concerns of the immigrant hordes and brainwashed self-hating Swedes enrolled at the school.
Because if your personal value system does not conform to that of the establishment, you will starve.

Auditor Says IMF Bailout Forecasts Overly Optimistic

WASHINGTON--The International Monetary Fund issued overly optimistic economic forecasts relating to its biggest bailouts in recent years, the fund's auditor said Tuesday.
The auditor said the IMF forecasts "tended to be optimistic in high-profile cases," such as the record bailout program for Greece.
The comments by the fund's Independent Evaluation Office reinforce criticism from some outside economists who questioned whether the IMF's forecasts were designed to help the board approve the bailouts. The auditor said the IMF at times revised downward its forecasts within months of releasing initial projections.
"We should further strengthen the learning culture in the Fund, including by enhancing our learning from past forecast errors," IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde said in a written statement.
Higher growth forecasts cut the amount of predicted debt a country owes, a primary determinant for whether the board can approve a bailout.
In the record Greek bailout, for example, fund growth forecasts allowed IMF staff to say the country's debt was sustainable early in the program. Private investors were eventually forced to take losses on the sovereign bonds they held, however, to ensure the country didn't default.
